"On the eve of a national election, it is well for us to stop for a moment and analyze calmly and without prejudice the effect on our Nation of a victory by either of the major political parties.
The problem of the electorate is far deeper, far more vital than the continuance in the Presidency of any individual. For the greater issue goes beyond units of humanity—it goes to humanity itself.
This video, produced by Frank Eaton for the North Carolina Democratic Party, premiered at the 2011 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on Saturday, April 30. North Carolina's strong commitment to the education of its people is outlined in this history of Democratic leadership in education over the last 100 years.
The intentional divide between the rich and the rest of us

Friends,
I've heard a great deal (perhaps even too much?) from progressives writing in relation to the turmoil in Egypt and other countries in North Africa and the Middle East. Democrats here in the U.S. have always tended to rejoice at these victories of oppressed people far from home (some of which - as in Russian Georgia - have proved very questionable in my mind).
PDNC has undertaken a letter writing campaign to get progressive voices into the media. Since Jack Sanders (see earlier post for tips and ideas) introduced it at the Jan. 29 meeting, four of our members have been published in area newspapers on four different topics: OP-eds -- Graig Meyer on Immigration Reform in the News and Observer; Debbie Liebers on Vietnam Homecoming celebration in the Fayetteville Observer; Letters to the Editor -- Heiderose Kober on Voter ID in the Durham Herald Sun, and Harry Phillips on Nuclear Plants in the News and Observer. Dear Progressive Democrat,
PDNC will meet on Saturday, January 29, 9:30 am - 11:30 am at the McKimmon Center, 1101 Gorman Street, Raleigh, in Room 9. The State Executive Committee of the North Carolina Democratic Party will meet at 12 NOON.
NCDP candidates David Parker (chair), Delmas Parker (2nd Vice Chair), Tony McEwen (3rd Vice Chair), and Kevin Smith (Secretary) will stop by to talk with us. Other candidates may do so as well if they find the time.
We have posted David Parker's, Bill Faison's and Dannie Montgomery's responses to our questionnaire on our website.
An important analysis of how AfroAmerican/Mexican/Puerto Rican workers forged unity, drawing in churches and community supporters plus mobilizing consumers to beat back a massive anti-union effort by Smithfield aided by ICE.
Unions Come to Smithfield
On Dec. 11, Smithfield workers were not just celebrating a vote count.
They'd just defeated one of the longest, most bitter anti-union campaigns in
modern U.S. labor history.
