Statement of Candidacy for Policy Chair
If re-elected to serve another term as Policy Chair for the Progressive Democrats on NC, it will be my priority to expand the lobbying efforts of our organization at the NC General Assembly.
During the NCGA 2007-08 legislative sessions the PDNC Policy Committee met and established our legislative priorities, and kept members informed of the status of priority bills moving through the General Assembly. We enjoyed some real successes, especially with the Same Day Registration bill and the Ethics Reform bill, but we all know that there still remains much to do. Priorities to consider for the 2009-2010 session include expanding public financing of elections to members of the General Assembly and to the entire Council of State, the moratorium on the death penalty, blocking off-shore oil drilling, passing the HK on J initiatives put forward by the NAACP, and pushing for tax credits for green industry.
I encourage every member of the PDNC to participate on the Policy Committee as we begin our work for the next session, and I ask for your vote for re-election to the position of PDNC Policy Chair.
If you want to start a discussion regarding any item that you think should be a legislative priority, please post to this blog!
