Candidate for Membership Chair

It is an honor to be nominated for the Membership Chair position of the Progressive Democrats of NC. I received an MPA from UNC Chapel Hill, 1990 and have been retired for several years.

In the summer of 2007 I helped organize the Progressive Democrats of Beaufort County chapter of PDA and currently serve as chair. Our group has a long list of accomplishments in our short time of existence. We supported the Peace Vigil on the waterfront weekly in Washington, NC for about a year. We organized the first Earth Day at the River in April with questions to all candidates, local, state and national. We held two Get Out the Vote training sessions, open to the public, in Washington. Our chapter affiliated with PDNC in December, 2007. Five of our members participated in HKonJ in 2008. Participated in Clean Water Lobby Day. Started Environmental Happy Hour (Green Drinks) in Washington. Organized with AMEXCAN the Latino Community Forum in October.

As Membership Chair I shall reach out to the progressives of NC and encourage the forming of new fusion (PDA and PDNC) chapters. We need to take advantage of the momentum started by this election and as one of our original local members said, "we need to put the kick back in the donkey."
