Candidate Statement for Political Action Chair

I am honored to be nominated to serve as the Political Action Chair. If elected I will work to formalize the endorsement process for local and state candidates and work with local chapters so that we can help them support local candidates of their choosing. Each chapter will be encouraged to have a member on the PAC board and the board will make all decisions regarding which candidates to endorse.

The past two national elections have produced large gains for the Democratic Party both on the National and State levels. We need to help build the grassroots that will solidify those gains while increasing the number of Progressive elected officials at all levels of Government. Our emphasis should be on better democrats not just more democrats. To do this we need to help progressive individuals get elected to local school boards, city councils, county commissioners etc.. while helping existing progressive elected officials move up to the next level of Government. Local positions provide the entry level training ground for good people to get into public service and are an area where grassroots support can make a difference. As Political Action Chair I will encourage and support our local chapters in this work.

Lastly, Political Action endorsements require money. With the help of the
PAC board I will attempt to set up formal fund raising mechanisms which will raise money specifically for Political Action. My hope is that if fund raising drives and/or events can be instituted as annual happenings they will be continued after my term as Political Action Chair has ended.

The task we have set out upon is a long term project. Recent events have provided us with an opportunity to greatly expand the influence of progressives on public policy. We must act now to seize this opportunity and build a base which can promote progressive policy for years to come.

Please vote for me and we can work together to make our future a more fair and equitable one.
