Smithfield Workers Vote to Unionize

A message from our coalition partner. We CAN make a difference!

Dear Friends:

I'm please to announce that our Sisters and Brothers at Smithfield Hog Slaughter plant in Bladen County have voted overwhelmingly to Unionize with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. The victory was just announced.

They thank all NAACP members and our broader HKonJ Coalition for our efforts in solidarity with them.

This gives a strong new momentum to bringing Union wages, union consciousness, and union contracts to all N.C.'s workers. Next on our Agenda: Smash Jim Crow 95-98. On behalf of Rev. Barber, myself, and all the members of the State Executive Committee, thank you for your steadfast support for our Black, Brown and White sisters and brothers at Smithfield. We are all Smithfield Workers!
