PDNC Executive Committee Meeting 6/7/07
Phone conference 6/7/07
Pete represented NCDP at the Legislative Reception and received some positive information regarding how the Legislature is predicted to vote on progressive bills in the upcoming session.
Progressive resolutions were passed at several District Conventions in May according to Matilda and Pete.
Isaac reports that the Living Wage Bill for city employees in Asheville has passed, but needs some cleaning up.
David reports that the attorney filed incorporation papers for the PDNC 501C4 and we should be incorporated soon. The Total fee for incorporation is $810...attorney fee was $500. Once we are incorporated, things will become more complicated in forming chapters.
If we gross less than $25,000 per year, we don't have to file a 990 form, but otherwise we'll need to file a 990 each year.
Matilda is to do a draft of "How to start Chapters."
Matilda is to send out fundraising letters to everyone on the mailing list. EACH Board member will make copies of the letter and snail mail them out to 10 of their friends with a note saying that they can expect a phone call from us later. Board members will then perform follow up calls asking for donations of time and/or money. We send names of our letter recipients to Matilda.
People are able to give to PDNC on line by going to the website, but at present there is no way to register as a sustaining gift giver on the website.
Pete states the place of the PDNC Annual Meeting will need to be moved as Durham will be engrossed in a large city festival which is booking up all the venues.
Everyone is asked to search for places in the Raleigh/Chapel Hill area which could house our event.
Pete says Rev Barber will be able to attend. Susan says Dennis Kucinich's campaign leaders want to be assured there will be other house parties, etc./fundraisers set in place before they commit Dennis. We discussed other speakers who could draw progressives to the meeting. Helen will contact Mike Sprague to see if he has made progress in contacting Ms Goodman or locating someone who might have an "inside scoop" there. From there we will know whether or not to try and contact other speakers.
Other names tossed around were: Al Franken, Michael Moore, Bill Moyers, Tom Hayden, Danny Glover, Jim Hightower, Ramsey Clark, Stewart Acuff, Medea Benjamin, Steven Cobert.
We discussed setting up roundtable discussion groups at the Annual Meeting focusing on MOVEMENT building. Pete will email everyone re: the agenda. Susan will be gone to Ireland to visit the "little people" June 18-July 31. We're hoping she finds the leprocan with the pot of gold!
NEXT PHONE CONFERENCE: June 27 at 8:15 PM We'll have a longer discussion of committees at that time.
