PDNC Minutes from Phone Conference 8/6/07

Present:  Isaac, Matilda, Susan, Delmas, Pete, David, Chris, Heidi, and Helen

The
first 15 minutes was spent in a discussion about getting an infusion of
energy amidst  the  disenchanting climate.  Delmas suggests people need
vision. Isaac suggests that people need to be prepared to work and
sacrifice.  Susan believes we need to reach out to the artists.  Pete
suggests bringing various progressive factions together and sees a role
for the Progressive Democrats in being a conduit or connector of those
different groups.  Heidi thinks we need to help people to prepare for
the upcoming financial crash and subsequent hardships.

The questions are asked : How do we bring these different progressive groups together?

Who do we need to see working together a year from now?

What's the strategy going to be?

For August 25 NC Democratic State Convention:  The PDNC has a room to meet in.

The
Platforms and Resolutions Committee is not up and running yet so we
will not have a plan in place to push Resolutions through the
legislature until early next year.

The possibility of PDNC
hosting a Lt. Gov Forum is discussed at length. Some question the value
of endorsing a Lt Gov candidate before all candidates have filed for
the race.  Chris suggests that we need to employ a credible process in
determining who can be endorsed.  In order to reach out to the rest of
the PDNC, we talked about filming the forum and posting segments of it
in "U Tube style" on the website along with the selected questions (in
writing) followed by Answers from Candidate A, B, C, etc.  We might
even attempt on line debates, blogs, etc. The style would be similar to
that used by Move On.  In order for this idea to be executed, we need
to ensure we can find someone with the expertise to help Mike manage
the website.  Helen will talk to a friend who has offered to help and
report to Pete in a couple of days.

The Annual Meeting will
need to be moved back to mid or late November. Dates discussed are Nov
16-17 or Nov 30-Dec 1.  Money raising goal may need to be brought to a
more realistic level..  Pete will send out a new fundraising letter for
us to send out to our group of 10 to be followed up by phone calls.
Everyone is asked to do their part to send out letters and make phone
calls.

We will need to decide when we can have our next face to
face meeting in order to do some serious strategizing!  Next phone
conference time will be announced soon.
